Have loads to catch up on when I get back including other peoples' work here in a-3. In a back street internet cafe in Bangkok, been to Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang, Hoi An is a pure delight. almost untouched, authentic..... spend the days hauling my gear and disappearing into the culture... doesn't get much better

He has an interesting expression in his face... was he observing? listening? questioning? being shy? Really nice portrait!

@Pavla: Thanks Pavla for your great comments here! Yes he is a very interesting person and a great musician. I think he is shy and retiring. In fact alot of the jazz musicians I meet are really great un-assuming people... so refreshing really. I was asked to come along to a rehearsal session for a new band that were also preparing for recording and performing this year. The place they were rehearsing was a cramped garage with crap lighting. So I had to use a flash. All I had was a Nikon flash that I bounced off the ceiling (dark timber rafters) on my Canon DSLR. I just directed him to sit with his bass and talk about his music.
Wow Matt...this portrait is amazing! The angle is really different and I like how he is one with his stand up bass. Excellent frame.

@bluechameleon: Thanks so much Blue. You really honour me with your comments! I stood on a milk crate to get some elevation. He is a very tall man and his bass is huge. He is one with his bass. Some people are easy to capture. (Jim to Spock "be one with the horse Spock)
