Amazing and very interesting shot Matt. Lots of things to see and wonder about in this image. I know people that complain the train is too close by when it is half a kilometer from their door. Wouldn't they have a fit if they lived here!

@Bill: thanks Bill !!

I think these are concrete railroad ties. The anchoring system is totally different than that used here where we have wooden railroad ties. Would appear to be some kind of special bolyts.

@Bill: yes I see what you mean Bill. I see some tracks with wood and some with concrete.

Robert from Kingsville, Canada

Nicely documented Matt . Gotta love the fellow sitting under the umbrella ! Bill you have a very keen eye !

23 Dec 2008 12:21pm

@Robert: thanks Robert. I think the trains were well known by the locals to be so relaxed here.

Alivia from ST-Etienne, France

j'aime cette image dépuillée et ces lignes qui fuient très loin vers l'horizon de la photo, vivre autrement ailleurs, une belle leçon. Merci

@Alivia: Merci Alivia !

grant from kansas city, United States

i've never seen people building so close to the tracks. it seems quite sad, and dangerous i would imagine. i love the sound of the trains at night, but that's hearing them several miles away.

@grant: space and cheap space is a premium there
